In Full Bloom

The Gallery, Lake Forest, Illinois

This collection brings together my love for the work of the American artist, Georgia O’Keefe with a lifelong obsession with chiaroscuro, an oil painting technique where light and dark hues are blended with soft brushes to create the illusion of rounded shapes on a two-dimensional surface. This technique was perfected by the Dutch Masters and requires a delicate balance between the white canvas and dark undertones. Here I explored the paradox of light and dark, not just as technique but also as metaphor of dimensionality in life - where acceptance of our darker nature provides the depth with which we can enjoy the lightness of being in this world. Lightness of Being is also the name of the image on the show card - the only remaining work from my debut, solo show.

CAVA (the Chicago Artists’ Association of the Visual Arts) is a non-profit organization representing Chicago-area artists aged 50 and older, known for its strong program of exhibitions and collaborations. Its annual member show is a highlight of the year. The 2024 exhibition, presented in partnership with ALMA Art Gallery in Bridgeport, featured my painting Lightness of Being — the only remaining work from my solo show In Full Bloom. The piece was also selected to appear on the official show card, alongside works by other CAVA artists.

Awakening Earth

Zhou B Art Gallery, Chicago, Illinois

Curated by Sergio Gomez, “Awakening Earth: Narratives of Spring” celebrated the cyclical dance of life, where death and dormancy give way to life and vibrancy. It reflects the broader implications of growth and renewal in our lives and communities, prompting a dialogue of how the themes of bloom and rejuvenation can inspire positive change.

This group exhibit was held in the prestigious Zhou B Art Gallery in Bridgeport, Chicago. Lightness of Being was chosen from nearly 300 applications to be included in this exhibit which included 54 contemporary artists.

On Fire

The Gallery, Lake Forest, Illinois

"On Fire" was a member exhibition presented by the Deer Path Art League and hosted by The Gallery in Lake Forest. The show explored the many shades of red — a color symbolizing passion, energy, power, and confidence, but also danger and intensity. Embrace, painted entirely in hues of red with pops of green an orange, was selected for the exhibition and featured on the official show card alongside works by other DPAL artists.
