The longhorn beetle holds an esteemed position in Western, Egyptian and Native American folklore. It is a transformation symbol, like the butterfly and dragonfly, but more grounded and works on the material plane. It is a universal symbol of love, good fortune, hard work, peace and emotional stability. It transcends norms of expected beauty and asks of us to not be fooled by surface beauty.
The cacti represents the ability to thrive in adverse circumstances and tells us that abundance comes from within; the spikes, a reminder that it must be protected at all costs.
The snake is larger in this drawing because it is in its natural element. You can see, that it too is filled with abundance. The boot, symbolising fortitude, is carried by the snake, like a magic carpet, guiding its step. For me, this image communicate that we must all tread lightly in this world, protect our inner treasures if we want to live in abundance and not fear what we do not understand. This painting is a wish, that you too may be guided by your totems as I am by mine.
